Earning art degrees at the University of Kansas have led Gene to a lifetime of making things. Experimentation with color and surfaces, a quest for interesting subject matter, and explorations into the diverse and rich southwestern traditions inspire Gene’s furniture creations. His series include skulls and New Mexico culture, cowboy and cow girl southwestern life, adult signature chairs and children’s furniture. In 1999, Gene received the “Most Unique Design Award” at the Northern New Mexico Woodworker Guild Winter Show.
